European X Games Tignes

Right now, in Tignes, France, the European X Games are happening.  Yesterday was the men’s ski slopestyle elimination.  There were a total of 18 skiers competing in this event, including Americans Tom Wallisch, Bobby Brown, and Nick Goepper.  The top eight skiers made it to the Finals, which were today.  Tom Wallisch, the gold medalist in the Winter X Games Aspen, was first in the qualification round, but came in second in the finals.  Bobby Brown stepped it up to take the gold in the slopestyle finals today.

On Wenesday was the woman’s ski slopestyle finals.  Kaya Turski, from Canada, took the gold medal, making that her third consecutive gold medal in slopesyle at the X Games Tignes.  She had three consecutive medals at X Games Aspen also, so that makes her the first X Games athlete to get a double three-peat, which is three consecutive medals at two X Games events. Anna Segal of Australia and Dara Howell from Canada took second and third place in the event.

Breckenridge, CO

I recently went on a trip to Breckenridge, CO with Michigan State University Ski Club.  This was my fourth time going to ski outside of Michigan, and even though there was not as much snow there as in past years, I still had a blast.  Not only did I get to ski for four days at Breckenridge and Keystone Ski Resort, but I had a great time with friends.  Breckenridge Ski Resort was voted the best park by Freeskier magazine. This trip was definitely the highlight of my winter, but now I am just skiing as much as I can in Michigan until I get a chance to go back next year.

Winter Dew Tour Championships

Today was the Winter Dew Tour Championships.  The final stop of the tour was in Snowbasin, UT.  An up-and-coming skier, Nick Goepper, was at the top of the podium today with first place in slopestyle.  He was followed by Tom Wallisch in second and Bobby Brown in third.  Goepper is from Indiana and is one of the youngest skiers at 17 years old.  He has been seen on the podium many times this year, including second place at the X games,  and I am expecting to see him improve a lot over the next few years.

Winter X Games 2012: Tom Wallisch Makes History

Where is all the snow?  I have been asking myself this all winter.  Skiing is a huge passion of mine, and there have not been many chances to ski this winter with the lack of snow in Michigan.  I have had to keep myself busy with skiing in other ways like watching the X Games.  I was very excited to watch it, and even more excited when my favorite skier, Tom Wallisch, took gold in slopestyle making history with the highest score ever.  Here is the video of his winning run:

I cant wait to get more snow, but until then this will have to do.
